Comedy Giant Bill Bailey Wins £8,000 for Winston’s Wish on Special Christmas Celebrity Catchphrase

Loved for his television appearances on such shows as Have I Got News for You, Never Mind the Buzzcocks and winning Strictly Come Dancing, as well as his sharp-witted observations on everyday life, Bill Bailey is a comedic giant.

Appearing on the festive of the ever-popular celebrity version of one of the UK’s favourite gameshows, Bill Bailey buzzed his way to win an incredible £8,000 for us, cracking word picture conundrums with his usual comedic charm!

Fans of Bill Bailey will know that this is not the first time the comedy star has lent his talents to raise both awareness and funds for Winston’s Wish, having performed a special charity event in 2023 which raised more than £45,000.

Two years ago, I hosted an event which helped to raise both awareness and funds for the charity. I know myself how difficult grief can be, and especially so when you are young and having to grow up with that grief.”

The laughter launderer and musician revealed how he first came into contact with Winston’s Wish. Bill shared:

A couple of pals of mine who died had kids who were teenagers. They were going through a tough time. It’s especially hard for kids, I mean, it’s never easy for anyone, but for kids, particularly teenagers, it’s very hard because they’re going through lots of other things as well.

“There didn’t seem to be a huge amount of support around, but this is where Winston’s Wish come in. They provide that support, so that made it feel like this is something I wanted to get involved with! I found out more about the charity and was just knocked out by the work they do!”

“Winston’s Wish is a charity which has been on my radar for several years. I applaud the work they do to provide support for young people who are dealing with the death of someone close to them.

I am delighted once again to support Winston’s Wish, to highlight their support for childhood bereavement and to appear on Celebrity Catchphrase to raise funds for this great charity.”
