Beckie Wynne, Director of Income Generation at Winston’s Wish, took part in the walk over the weekend. She commented:

The challenge was formidable even in good weather but especially so in the wet conditions

The dedication, good nature and general camaraderie of seeing more than 70 employees from our good friends at both MetLife and Reassured was nothing more than incredible! They battled very wet conditions, wind and more than a little mud, but kept on going until the challenge was complete with a smile on their faces. It was a joy to walk with them.

As charity partners, both companies have been a huge support to us for some time now and help us to be there for grieving children and young people. Every year we see more and more grieving young people as well as parents and professionals come to us for grief help and we are beyond thankful for all the support we receive to ensure that our helpline is open and specialist support and advice is available.

We also have to give a huge shout-out to the event organiser Sky Blue Adventures who were incredible with all their support.

A popular and vigorous challenge, the Yorkshire Three Peaks is a stunning reminder of the obstacles that countless bereaved young people face every day as they grow up without their special person.

Andy Nibloe, Head of Compliance at MetLife UK, and Exec Sponsor of the MetLife Makes a Difference Committee, said:

The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge was not just a true test of endurance, but also a celebration of our purpose. As Sponsor of the MetLife Makes a Difference initiative in the UK, I’ve seen firsthand how passionate our people are about giving back.

Supporting Winston’s Wish means helping children navigate the toughest moments of their livesand that’s a cause worth every step we took. This very physical challenge was suggested by our CEO Dominic Grinstead, and was supported by our entire Executive team, most of whom took part in the walk. I am extremely proud of everyone who took part and all those who worked behind the scenes to make it happenWe were also joined by our partners at Reassured, which gave us even more strength in numbers!

Hikers doing the Yorkshire Three Peaks

The determined hikers donned their waterproofs and raincoats and began their challenge in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, heading to the sizeable PenyGhent (694 m) before continuing to Whernside (736 m), and finally tackling Ingleborough (723 m), taking roughly 25 miles of uphill terrain in their stride throughout what was an incredibly wet day!

We would like to thank the more than 70 hikers who took on the Yorkshire Three Peaks to help give hope to the UK’s grieving young people and the many other individuals who take on their own challenges or community initiatives to raise awareness of our services as well as funds to help keep these open and available to the young people who need us the most.
