This one-day course provides a comprehensive guide to supporting bereaved children and young people who have special educational needs and disabilities. During the training course you will learn that grief is inclusive. All children, regardless of their age, cognitive ability, and/or physical skills, are affected by a bereavement.
This course covers:
- An overview of bereavement theories, the ages and stages of bereavement and how they relate to children with SEND
- The skills and techniques needed to support bereaved children with SEND
- Developing a toolkit of resources to help you talk to children with SEND about death; support them to ask questions, share their thoughts and feelings about their grief; and support children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions
- Self care techniques to ensure that you are well supported in order to meet the needs of the children that you work with
- The importance of bereavement policies and procedures
- Developing a curriculum to help teach children about the issues of life, death, bereavement and grief
