This course covers:

  • An overview of bereavement theories, the ages and stages of bereavement and how they relate to children with SEND
  • The skills and techniques needed to support bereaved children with SEND
  • Developing a toolkit of resources to help you talk to children with SEND about death; support them to ask questions, share their thoughts and feelings about their grief; and support children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions
  • Self care techniques to ensure that you are well supported in order to meet the needs of the children that you work with
  • The importance of bereavement policies and procedures
  • Developing a curriculum to help teach children about the issues of life, death, bereavement and grief
