Turn puddles into playgrounds!

Wear Wellies is a super simple way to help give hope to bereaved children across the UK, just by wearing your wellies!

Encourage as many of your friends, family, students, or colleagues to donate just £1 each to wear their wellies for the day. Simply pick a day to host your very own Wear Wellies day and join in the fun!

But, why wellies?

Amongst all the puddle jumping fun, Wear Wellies has an important message. 

Every 20 minutes a child in the UK will become bereaved of a parent. Unlike adults, who stay with their grief, children often jump in and out of their grief. We describe this journey as ‘puddle jumping’. This means that they may initially be upset about their loss but may then appear to be fine for a period of time and then become upset again, and so on. This can be very confusing for both children and the adults who care for them. 

Conversations can allow children to express their emotions, be it sadness, anger or fear. This way, we can allow children to puddle jump whilst understanding their feelings, one puddle at a time. 

At Winston’s Wish we help bereaved children to find their feet after their worlds are turned upside down by grief. Through direct bereavement support, training and resources we help them to move forward with hope for a brighter future.  

How your money helps

Every penny you help to raise this Wear Wellies Day will go towards funding our vital bereavement services that reach and impact over 80,000 grieving children and young people across the country every year.  

Whatever you are able to raise, you help us to give hope to grieving children. 

• £14 could provide two children with a copy of ‘Muddles, Puddles and Sunshine’ – a book that aims to help children make sense of their experience by reflecting on the different aspects of their grief.  
• £48 – could provide three children with a memory box that can be used to store treasured objects, helping them to remember their loved one in a way that is personal to them. 
• £100 – could fund six live chat sessions with a bereavement support workers, giving young people the opportunity to share their feelings and find ways to cope.  

As well as wearing your wellies we’ve got lots of extra puddle themed activities that’ll help you raise vita cash whilst also having loads of fun!
