In memory of dad: Doing a charity skydive for Winston’s Wish

Poppy is taking on a charity skydive to raise money for Winston’s Wish and in memory of her dad who died four years ago. Poppy has an Instagram account sharing her grief journey called @thegriefcase

What fundraising challenge are you taking on?

The challenge I have decided to take on is the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of a skydive. My friends and family would definitely describe me as a ‘scardey cat’ and I’m terrified of heights so this is an opportunity to overcome those fears.

Why did you decide to support Winston’s Wish?

I found out about Winston’s Wish on Instagram. My dad died four years ago when I was 28 and my life turned upside down. My younger sister was just eight years old at the time. So to be able to raise money for Winston’s Wish, a charity that guides children though grief is very close to my heart. Grief is something I have struggled to navigate as an adult, let alone as a young person, so I’m glad to be able to support this amazing cause.

Tell us why you decided to do a skydive

I know my dad would be so proud of everyone taking part in this jump. Fear and anxiety are things that have taken a front seat in my life since my dad died and I know this skydive will be my personal way of embodying the phrase ‘feel the fear and do it anyway’. I’m planning on bringing a small photo of him, to keep with me on the jump so I know he’s with me every step of the way. BRING IT ON!
