Free online bereavement training for schools
Our free online courses will help you understand how grief affects a child or young person and how you can help them. The courses have been designed for primary and secondary schools – choose which course you want to do and click on the button below. Courses for primary schools

1. Childhood bereavement: an introduction
An introductory course on childhood bereavement and what you can do to help those going through it. This course will cover:
- What is childhood bereavement?
- How does grief affect a child?
- Dealing with a bereavement in schools
This course will take around 20 minutes to complete. Just click on the button below to start the course.
2. What you can do to help
This course explains some of the ways you can help children and young adults suffering from a bereavement. The course includes:
- The importance of communication
- Planning and preparation
- When to seek further support
- Help, support and self-care

PSHE lesson resources
Our free PSHE lesson plans and resources will help you talk about bereavement and loss with your pupils, educate them on how to support a grieving friend and what support if available for them.

These activities will help grieving children and young people to explore and express their feelings and emotions and to help them maintain memories of the person who has died.

On-demand grief support
If you need some guidance on what to say to a child or are unsure how to approach a bereaved young person, you can reach out to a member of our team. If you need to speak to us in a language other than English, we can use interpreters over the phone, and we can use the Relay UK app if you have hearing or speech difficulties.
