In 2019, Learning Nexus decided they wanted to partner with a charity as part of their reinvigorated Corporate Social Responsibility plans. They invited Winston’s Wish to present to their staff, alongside a number of other charities, to help them decide which charity would resonate with their employees the most.
Following an inspiring presentation, their staff immediately believed that not only was Winston’s Wish the right cause for them but also felt that there was the possibility of building a truly transformative partnership.
“From our first meeting with Winston’s Wish we knew we didn’t just want to raise money, we wanted to use our expertise to deliver something of value, something that would play to our strengths and could impact the charity operationally,” said Kim Eade, Studio Manager at Learning Nexus. “We knew from our discussions with their team that they could help us to achieve this and ultimately help us to give hope to more grieving children.”
Kim and her team were able to meet with key members of staff from Winston’s Wish to begin understanding the needs and pain points they were facing as a charity. This enabled them to match up their skills and experience with the charities objectives and begin work on an exciting project which both organisations felt confident would have a lasting impact.
The relationship started with ‘light touches’ so both sides could learn more about each other. They met over a number of weeks to understand where the support of Learning Nexus could bring most value, and for the charity to learn exactly what the leading e-learning company could offer.
Winston’s Wish had previously released an online training resource available through a private educational learning platform. The challenge this presented was that this prohibited a number of teachers and schools from accessing the training as this was not freely available. The charity had the challenge of producing this content in a way that would be accessible to all who needed it but didn’t have the budget to create something bespoke that could sit on their own website. Together, they decided that this is where Learning Nexus could truly add value.
Over the coming weeks and months, Learning Nexus continued to work with the charity to transform the existing online training content into on-demand e-learning courses which could be hosted on their own website, and therefore be accessed by anyone at any time.
“Working with Learning Nexus demonstrates the power of partnership working.” said Paul Moore, Associate Director of Fundraising at Winston’s Wish. “While we continue to be incredibly grateful for their ongoing fundraising and financial support, the results of working together strategically have been nothing short of incredible.”
The project culminated in the creation of four e-learning courses designed to give teachers the basic skills and knowledge they need to support a grieving child in their classroom. These courses are not only available on-demand, but they are available to anyone free of charge. With the courses being free and easily accessible, Winston’s Wish have seen more than 19,000 teachers take the courses since they launched in May 2020.
“Moving into the second year of our partnership, we know the impact of our support will be felt for many years to come,” said Kim. “Winston’s Wish staff are all full of ideas and there will hopefully be many more projects ahead with one clear goal – to give hope to grieving children. We would certainly recommend partnering with this special charity.”
